Overview
Known as the “Coca Cola Route” Marangu route is the cheapest Route to Climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. Marangu has the widest and most comfortable path to walk on, but it is not neessarily the easiest to summit. However it offers you the luxury of being able to sleep in huts along the entire route. Mineral water, soft drinks, chocolates and beers are also sold at all the camps on this route.

ITINERARIES
DAY 01
FROM KILIMANJARO AIRPORT TO HOTEL
Our friendly tour coordinator will be awaiting your arrival at the Kilimanjaro Airport. Incase of further assistance at the Airport, she/he will be there to help. Drive to Moshi and Overnight at Kindoroko Hotel.

DAY 02
BRIEFING AND PREPARATION DAY
Before noon, you meet up with your Mountain Guide for an introduction and briefing. Our tour coordinator and Mt Guide will take you through on what to expect on each day while on the Mountain. They will also leave plenty of room for a question and answer session. After the briefing your Guide will make an inspection of your gear just to make sure you have everything that you need for the Climb. Overnight at Kindoroko Hotel.

DAY 03
MARANGU GATE (1980 M) TO MANDARA HUT (2700 M).
Hike time: 5 hrs
Elevation gain: 720m
Estimated distance: 12 km
Habitat : Montane Forest
After breakfast, you will drive to Marangu gate. Finish registration before you begin the hike that will take you through a beautiful rain forest, that accommodates , Black and White Colobus Monkeys and and many Birds. Picnic lunch along the route to Mandara. On arrival leisure with hot coffee or tea with snacks. Late afternoon you will take a walk to the Maundi Crater for acclimatization – thereafter walking back for dinner and overnight at the Mandara Hut .

DAY 04
MANDARA HUT (2700M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3720M).
Hike time: 6hrs
Elevation gain: 1000m
Estimated distance: 15 km
Habitat : Moorland
Today’s hike will take you through a Giant Savannah semi rainforest and lobbelia’s to the second Hut. Have a picnic lunch along the route to Horombo arriving late in the afternoon. At camp take coffee, tea or hot chocolate and later if you have the energy a walk along the Mawenzi route to as far as you can manage for acclimation purposes. Hike back for dinner and overnight to Horombo Hut.

DAY 05
HOROMBO HUT (3720M) - ACCLIMATISATION DAY
Hike time: 4.5 hrs
Habitat : Moorland
This is an extra day for acclimatization and it’s an ideal day to rest as well as walk high and sleep low. To acclimatize you will hike towards the Mawenzi Hut, passing Zebra Rocks on the way (about 3 hours up and 1,5 hours down), then return to Horombo Hut for another overnight.

DAY 06
HOROMBO HUT (3720M) TO KIBO HUT (4700M).
Hike time: 6 hrs
Elevation gain: 980m
Estimated distance: 15 km
Habitat : Alpine Desert
After breakfast start hiking with picnic lunch along the route through the semi desert areas, small glaciers, passing sunny and windy conditions for before arriving, almost exhausted at the Kibo Hut for dinner and overnight .

DAY 07
MAWENZI TARN CAMP (4330M) - KIBO HUT (4700M)
Elevation Gain: Approximately 370m Hiking time: 4 – 5 hours Habitat: Alpine desert
Continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent, which begins around midnight. Overnight at Kibo Camp.

DAY 08
KIBO HUT (4700M) TO UHURU PEAK (5895M) TO HOROMBO HUT (3720M)
Summit time: 8 hrs
Elevation gain: 1200 m
Estimated distance: 6km
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Descent time: 5 hrs
Elevation decrease: 2175 m
Estimated distance: 21km
Habitat: Moorland
Your final ascent will start as early as 01.00hrs (1.00am) going zigzag through thick glaciers and sandy areas up to Gilman’s Point for 6 to 7 hours. If you wish to continue to the Uhuru peak (the highest peak in Africa) is another approx 2 hrs away. Making it to Uhuru Peak is exhilarating, here you will take your memorable picture before you start a descent slowly to Kibo Hut, for breakfast and rest for approximately 2 hours then walk down t Horombo Hut for dinner and Overnight.
